Two Friends, One Kitchen...the Soy Delicious Moisturizing Candle is born!
Georgette Hoyo and Maggie Maceiras are childhood friends who both became school teachers, married, had children and shared a dream of starting their own business; giving them freedom and flexibility to stay home and raise their kids. While on vacation, Maggie called Georgette with the perfect idea - making environment-friendly soy candles. Soon after, they hit the kitchen and began experimenting with scents until the perfect, hand-poured soy candle was created. It all began in the summer of 2006 in Miami, Florida.
Soy Delicious Moisturizing Candles are a unique product – you get a soy candle and skin moisturizer in one. The name depicts the melting pot that makes up our multicultural community, with a play on the Spanish word “soy,” which translates to “I am.” Our candles truly are delicious in every sense of the word. The hand-poured candles are filled to the brim, rich with aroma from the high concentration of essential fragrance oils. The magnificent scent will fill every room in your home. The wide array of scents is sure to entice the senses of all, from exotic and tropical to soothing and relaxing.
Soy Delicious Moisturizing Candles are made using 100% pure soy– not paraffin wax– and have a high concentration of fragrance oils to ensure an amazing scent. Soy wax is derived from soy beans, a renewable resource that makes our candles eco-friendly. Their delicious fragrance will burn evenly and cleanly for up to 80 hours with virtually no smoke or soot, making them environmentally sensitive, non-carcinogenic and non-toxic. Our candles are dye-free and we use cotton core lead-free wicks, keeping the candles as natural as possible.
Our candles offer a personal spa experience in the comfort of your own home. Soy contains Vitamin E and antioxidant properties, both known for their hydrating power. Once the candle liquefies, dip your finger or dipping spoon into the soy and use the oil as a rich moisturizing protein rub to keep hands, feet, cuticles and elbows soft and luxurious. Don’t worry, the soy is only slightly warmer than your body temperature; but you may wish to blow out the candle to avoid being burned by the flame. When you have completely burned out your candle, you can wash the 14 oz. tumbler with soap and warm water and use it as a drinking glass to serve your favorite beverage.
For the first two years of business, Soy Delicious Moisturizing Candles could be purchased at local bazaars, craft shows, food festivals and fundraisers. In 2008, Soy Delicious began to wholesale their candles in various locations in South Florida and the Florida Keys. Eventually, they made their way into local shops, boutiques and spas and are now sold in 6 states, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. In July 2009, we attended our first trade show in Atlanta and are now looking forward to the road ahead with upcoming trade shows in New York, Dallas, Ft. Lauderdale and Chicago. November 2009 we were the exclusive candle company in the Gift Lounge for talent at the 10th Annual Latin GRAMMYs and will also gift the talent at the 52nd GRAMMYs to be held in January 2010.
